Forest Inventory System

Open Range Consulting’s Forest Inventory System provides a scalable, landscape-wide solution for quantifying western juniper and other tree species structure in remote and operationally challenging environments.

The system uses advanced remote sensing and field-calibrated modeling to estimate tree diameter and volume at the individual-tree level, producing consistent, wall-to-wall inventory data across large management areas. Outputs are generated for hundreds of thousands to millions of trees, enabling comprehensive assessment without the cost, time, or access limitations of traditional field-based inventories.

Inventory models are rigorously validated using independent field measurements and multiple accuracy metrics to ensure reliable performance across the full range of tree sizes and stand conditions. Performance summaries are structured to reflect actual forest composition, providing results that align with on-the-ground conditions rather than idealized samples.

This product supports data-driven decision-making for:

  • Woodland encroachment and fuels assessment

  • Biomass and volume estimation

  • Treatment planning and prioritization

  • Long-term monitoring across large and inaccessible landscapes

By integrating high-resolution remote sensing with repeatable analytical workflows, the Forest Inventory System delivers defensible, actionable forest metrics that allow land managers to plan, evaluate, and monitor management actions at scale.
